A telescope lens is adjusted so that two different wavelengths of light, are usually blue and red, the same concentration brought. This leaves the rest of the light for a Purple Haze around the sharp image to form. In an apochromatic be placed on three wavelengths of light in the same concentration, blurred to reduce the amount of light colors. Fixed an achromatic lens can be strongly influenced by a ratio of focal length, f/15 improved if the coordination relationships are so popular Anchromates classics. A Apochromat can achieve the same degree of color correction to a ratio of shorter focal length, which for a compact telescope.

Good answers above, a 20x - 30x price difference.
